Little Ship Club Restaurant, London

Often restaurant washroom refurbishment projects are those which give us the opportunity to show off our washroom design and creativity credentials, whilst providing a functional and practical solution. The Little Ship Club project was no different in this regard.

Sitting on the bank of the Thames, Little Ship Club is a restaurant and social club in the City of London that’s increasingly available for venue hire. Lan Services were tasked with upgrading their washrooms to deliver a fresher look and to develop the club’s disabled toilet facilities to further enable wedding bookings at the venue.

With regular bookings already scheduled, the problem Little Ship Club faced was getting these works carried out in a very short time frame so as not to disturb their revenue from venue hire.

During this restaurant washroom refurbishment we worked with a specialist to overcome rising damp issues that had been plaguing the site for some time. After exposing the problem, the bottom lower edge of the walls were lined to prevent the rising damp from returning.

The Little Ship Club has some beautiful French polished wooden doors and door frames throughout the property and these were also a feature in the washroom. We worked carefully to preserve these integral features and ensured they still fit seamlessly into their new modern washroom facilities.

We installed a durable, anti-slip Altro vinyl flooring to aid safety and stand up to heavy foot traffic, and tiled the walls halfway up, with a silk grey paint finish above. We also brought duct panel systems halfway up the wall within the cubicles too. This allowed us to house the cisterns and all internal pipework, but due to their low height, we were able to create a shelf behind the toilet for users to place a hat or bag, a feature the client was keen to include.

Pipework was also hidden away behind the urinals by using ducting as well as concealed trap urinals, which were paired with sensor-activated flushes. Duct panel systems and concealing pipework makes washrooms easier to clean as exposed surfaces are fewer, and more accessible. Fitting solid surface vanity tops with under counter ceramic basins, further improved the easy clean nature of this restaurant washroom design meaning Little Ship Club’s new washrooms were not only more modern and refreshed, but easier to maintain at the same time.

Working in the bustling heart of the city can pose many restrictions to building works, not least the parking and management of multiple trades. The access to Little Ship Club was limited, which meant meticulous management of deliveries and careful rotation of material storage.

Tight time frames always require precise management of multiple trades, all areas we as a specialist contractor understand and have experience coordinating.

The Little Ship Club’s restaurant washroom refurbishment was carried out smoothly, on time and on budget, tackling persistent rising damp issues and improving disabled washroom facilities to enable them to get the licence needed to be used as a wedding venue.

This project stands as an example of how tight spaces, busy event booking schedules and City of London restrictions can be worked around seamlessly with meticulous management and experience.
