Office Project in Cambridge

A global business operation invited us to complete a executive office bathroom refurbishment and rework their entire washroom design at one of their office sites in Cambridge. The company’s day-to- day business could not be affected in any way and so with the telephone calls, conferences and meetings that took place constantly at this high functioning office, so out of hours office bathroom and washroom refurbishment work was required.

The client was looking for a very sleek, modern and professional look to their new office washrooms, incorporating design elements and cutting edge technology. The washrooms were currently small individual toilet rooms, and the client was seeking to create more of an open plan wash space.

During the specification and design process, we were able to significantly improve the usable space within both the male and female washrooms, increasing the number of toilets and wash basins.

We installed a hard wearing Karndean laminate floor that carried an imitation stone effect, as well as an Altro white rock wall covering. We chose this Altro white rock because we can thermoform the cladding around corners, which means far fewer joins. This in turn leaves fewer places for bacteria to build up, makes the room easier to clean and significantly improves hygiene in the wash space.

We lowered the ceiling with a metal frame that was dry lined, a much smarter appearance than a commercial suspended ceiling. This void created behind the metal frame was where we ran many services, and we provided a small access hatch for future maintenance.

We installed premium 38mm thick cubicles that deliver a certain amount of stability and solidness compared to a traditional cubicle door. The cubicles were made from high pressure laminate (HPL) which had a hard wood edging to them for increased durability. We fitted these cubicles full height – floor to ceiling – to give a smart continuous panelled wall effect.

The pilasters for the cubicle doors were also rebated so that the range of doors would fit flush alongside each other.

Wall hung toilets were mounted on glass duct panel sets. Wall hung toilets leave the floor space completely clear, which not only makes the room appear bigger, but also makes the floor much easier to clean.

Sensor activated flush controls were incorporated with both the toilets and urinals, but perhaps one of the most attractive features of the washrooms were the solid surface wash slabs. These slabs have a removable plinth for access for cleaning and maintenance. An integrated bin system was fitted within the vanity unit by the pairing of a counter top waste chute and a concealed bin beneath.

The client was very keen to keep simple clean aesthetics at the forefront of this office bathroom refurbishment and so we installed a bespoke integrated mirror, which carried sensor activated soap dispenser, sensor activated tap, paper towel dispenser and hand dryer within and behind the mirrored glass. To round things off, we installed a glass splash back between the wash slab and the bottom edge of the mirror, which was positioned to incorporate the LED lighting system.

The transformation of these office bathrooms was delivered through a carefully thought out working schedule to cause little to no disruption to office work flow, yet still deliver these modern, highly designed bathrooms and washrooms in a sensible time frame.
