The Corn Exchange is a thriving theatre and cinema in the heart of Newbury, Berkshire. The entertainment venue runs a recently refurbished café and bar used during the daytime by passing High Street shoppers and during the evening by theatre goers. The site boasts modern facilities throughout but lacked the same standards in their washrooms.

Lan Services was offered the opportunity to design and refurbish the washrooms on all 3 floors. The brief was to combine the traditional, upmarket feel that users expect with modern materials and ease of maintenance. The project had to completed within a tight deadline so as to open for the start of the theaters busy Autumn period.

Washroom Hygiene

Sensor operated washroom products were used throughout. This included specification of the DVS A45 sensor tap as well as the DVS range of sensor toilet and urinal flush. When combined, the washroom achieves a minimal touch facility, therefore reducing the opportunity for germs to spread. High power infra-red hand dryers complete the minimal touch installation. The combination of energy and water efficient products also helps The Corn Exchange to save money.

All toilet and urinal pipework is concealed behind full height duct panel sets and basin pipes beneath the enclosed (but fully accessible) vanity unit. Without the awkward pipes the washroom becomes very easy to clean and, as such, prevents germs from spreading.

Robust Toilet Room

The use of hard porcelain tiles on the washroom floors and walls ensures that the installation will last, particularly with heavy footfall during concentrated walkout periods. The combination of grey and white gives a minimal and modern feel.

Concealing pipework within duct panels and beneath vanity units helps prevent vandalism while remaining easily accessible for maintenance staff through access panels.

The ground floor washroom installation included white solid surface vanity tops with integral Corian basins. The solid surface material is unique in providing the opportunity for any scratches or damage to be sanded and polished out of the resin based material. The vanity tops therefore not only look impressive but will last for years.

Stylish Appearance

The washrooms were finished with the addition of dark wooden framed mirrors, wall mounted soap dispensers and Franke brushed stainless steel barrel toilet roll holders.

Two ground floor washrooms had the original solid wood toilet cubicles re-installed while the rooms on the upper floors had new woodgrain solid grain laminate cubicles installed with robust stainless steel cubicle fittings.

The finished toilet refurbishment project was completed on time and budget with minimal inconvenience to customers. The Corn Exchange are extremely pleased with the finished rooms and will be recommending our services to others.
