Lan Services was commissioned to build a new campsite washroom – featuring toilet and shower block within Long Meadow Campsite, a popular holiday park within the New Forest, adjacent to the New Forest Showground in Hampshire.

Starting in November the washroom project took approximately 5 months to complete and involved the full build and internal fit out of the washrooms. Materials used included compact laminate (SGL) toilet cubicles, non slip safety washroom flooring, water efficient shower panels, energy efficient hot water and heating system as well as fully compliant Doc M shower and toilet facilities.

BESPOKE WASHROOM FACILITIES FOR CAMPSITES

At Long Meadow Campsite, Lan Services built a new shower/toilet block washroom facility. A complete bespoke campsite washroom designed with the specialist washroom knowledge of the caravan, camping and holiday park market firmly in mind. This included shower facilities and toilet facilities as well as disabled accessible showers and toilets. Built from the ground up during winter so as not to disturb the client’s peak business.

The campsite undertook a major toilet and shower block new build as part of their on-going expansion plans.  The new toilet and shower block needed to be both modern and durable. Whilst also being fit for use in the holiday market.

Particularly in this industry fixtures and fittings need to be hard wearing and suitable for frequent use. Well maintained and well serviced washroom facilities are exceptionally important in the holiday sector. They both attract and retain customers.

Design and creativity is key to a great looking, functional and easy to maintain holiday park washroom.

CAMPSITE SHOWER / TOILET BLOCK DESIGN & SPECIFICATION

Lan Services were the only contractor chosen for the campsite washroom project and in fact built the shower block / toilet block, prior to installing the washroom. Commercial Washrooms our sister company specified and supplied materials for the project. Including toilet cubicles, sanitary ware, taps, and hand dryers.

From an aesthetic perspective the client chose for the design of the washroom to reflect their corporate style, and to utilise the space to build on their brand image, as well as being fully functional washrooms.  Long Meadow campsite, asked us to complete the washroom cubicles and vanity units in the colours of their logo and corporate style.

The Solid Grade Laminate toilet and shower cubicles were coloured in line with the campsite’s own corporate green colours.  Contrasting laminate vanity tops were supplied with inset ceramic hand wash basins.

CAMPSITE WASHROOM HEALTH AND SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

Campsite, caravan parks and holiday park washrooms all face the same health and safety design challenges. When considering a new build campsite washroom block such as this or refurbishing an existing toilet block facility there are many building related health and safety issues to consider. Depending on the scale of the development the project is likely to be affected by the CDM regulations as well as local authority building control.

As Lan Services specialise in commercial washroom and toilet refurbishment projects, we were able to supply specific advice to satisfy all stakeholders as to the suitability of the washroom build, and installation.

Full disabled facilities were integrated in the design, to facilitate for less able guests and to satisfy legal requirements. This included Doc M compliant showers and toilets. Also because of the likelihood that children, the elderly and disabled will use site facilities the basins and shower hot water temperature are controlled by the use of thermal mixing valves.

Thermal mixing valves, whether integrated within the shower/basin or as an addition to the supply pipe work limit the hot water temperature to a comfortable but safe level. Offering a safe guard against scalding.

WATER & ENERGY SAVING FIXTURES

Finally a number of eco-friendly fixtures were installed, products which can to some people seem like the expensive option. However the cost savings they will realise should not be under estimated. Especially over a 10 years life span of a commercial campsite washroom on a busy campsite. In fact the busier the washroom the faster the payback.

In many cases these items payback the investment in energy and water costs relatively quickly. These include timed shower valves, urinal controls, self-closing taps and dual flush cisterns. They also boost corporate environmental credentials and provide a level of vandal resistance.

Self-closing and timed flow valves on taps and showers prevent washrooms being deliberately or accidentally flooded.
