The public toilets in the town of Wareham, Dorset (Howard’s Lane and The Quay) have recently been acquired by Wareham Town Council, having previously been operated by Purbeck District Council. The new owners were extremely keen to improve the towns facilities to increase its appeal to tourists and locals.

The two sets of public toilets are located not far from one another in Howards Lane and adjacent to Wareham Quay. The last refurbishment to both buildings was likely to have been approximately 25-30 years ago and the rooms were in dire need of an upgrade and refurbishment.

Lan Services was contacted to offer a full washroom design and public toilet refurbishment service. This included the production of a detailed toilet refurbishment specification which the council used to compare against other tenders. Both the washroom design and subsequent refurbishment work was paid for by a funding programme that Wareham Town Council were fortunate enough to secure.

The toilet refurbishment work incorporated the renewal of all wall, floor and ceiling coverings within the public toilets as well as replacement of the cubicles, vanity units, taps and washroom accessories. A different colour scheme was chosen for each of the 2 toilet blocks with the Quay facilities including the town council corporate red.

Anti slip floor tiles ensured no accidents and bright white gloss wall tiles helped lift the light levels within the toilet rooms.

Vandal resistant details included mushroom head sensor taps, designed to limit the opportunity for users to grab and break the taps. The sensor timed flow means that the taps deliver only a limited amount of water, therefore reducing waste.

The result is a set of fantastic newly refurbished vandal resistant public toilet facilities which are easy to maintain and pleasant to use. Wareham Town Council are extremely happy and looking forward to the positive comments from locals and tourists alike.
